Sadly, Ange Laurette's story is not unusual for Haiti. She was attending BRESMA's free school and living at home until last fall. Following the loss of their home during flooding in the fall, her mother brought her to the orphanage for temporary care. Ange Laurette's father is deceased. Her mother is unable to repair their home or provide for her daughter financially. She has chosen adoption for Ange Laurette.
Upon her arrival at the orphanage and again when she learned that she would never return to her home, Ange Laurette suffered deep grief and was withdrawn for days. But her buoyant spirit allowed her to recover - today she is a cheerful, outspoken, popular little girl. Ange Laurette's favorite game is tag. She explained to us in no uncertain terms that she only likes to play with other girls, not boys. She has a lot of personality in a small package!
Ange Laurette should thrive in any family capable of parenting a child with higher than average intelligence. Contrary to what she says, Ange Laurette actually gets along just fine with boys. She would probably enjoy siblings of any age and either sex. Ange Laurette should be a very rewarding child to parent.
